Evaluating (Not Grading) the Dolphins Draft

Evaluating (Not Grading) the Dolphins Draft
Breaking down the pros and cons of each of the seven Miami Dolphins 2021 draft selections
Author:
May 3, 2021
The days after the end of a draft produce countless grades from media outlets far and wide, both local and national, sometimes accompanied with the caveat that immediate grades aren't necessarily fair.
So we'll take a different approach here because, yes, immediate draft grades are premature. We'll save the grades for three years down the road, which is why later this week we'll be grading each pick in the Dolphins' 2018 NFL draft.
For now, let's just look at the seven picks of the 2021 Dolphins draft individually and examine the pros and cons of each selection, along with other selections the Dolphins could have made instead.

The second day of the 2021 NFL Draft was filled with even more drama and intrigue than the opening round. It included a run of quarterbacks to close Round 2 and open the third round.
Meanwhile, the New York Jets got Zach Wilson a shiny new toy at wide receiver while the Minnesota Vikings dominated their competition with four stellar third-round selections.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Las Vegas Raiders continued to struggle through the annual event while the Cincinnati Bengals made one questionable selection.
These are among the winners and losers from Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft.

2021 NFL Draft: Best available players for Bears in second, third round

AP Photos
The Bears disregarded their most pressing needs for the upcoming season to trade up and take Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields at No. 11 overall Thursday. It’s a thrilling pick, but there’s more work ahead.
At the top of the to-do list: Find an offensive tackle.
The Bears are currently heading into the season with Charles Leno at left tackle and Germain Ifedi at right. Had they stayed at No. 20, they likely would’ve addressed that need. Instead, they can try again Friday in the second round (No. 52 overall) or third (No. 83).
It will be nearly impossible for them to trade up more than a few spots, so it’s unlikely they can get Oklahoma State tackle Teven Jenkins — a popular first-round projection who slipped to Day 2. They will probably be eying Stanford’s Walker Little or Texas’ Samuel Cosmi instead.

Scouts Provide Five Options for Packers in First Round of NFL Draft - Sports Illustrated Green Bay Packers News, Analysis and More

Apr 28, 2021
GREEN BAY, Wis. – The NFL Draft is almost here. The Green Bay Packers own the 29th pick of the first round. Here are five possibilities, with the help of four NFL scouts.
Oklahoma State OT Teven Jenkins: While one source said “the recent intel” is that Jenkins would be gone somewhere between No. 18 and No. 23, three others believed Jenkins would fall into range. He didn’t allow a sack the past two seasons and helped power Chuba Hubbard’s 2,000-yard rushing season. His tackle-guard versatility would provide key flexibility from Day 1 and an eventual starter at right tackle.
“If I was going to be the guy this year, I’d have to be a mother****** on the field, be a dickhead, be more aggressive than I ever was, and I took that personally,” Jenkins said at pro day.

Five Factors That Could Influence Ravens' First-Round Picks

Copied!
General Manager Eric DeCosta dramatically improved his ability to maneuver around the draft board with the trade of Orlando Brown Jr., but sitting at No. 27 and No. 31 in the first round, the Ravens are still going to be watching from the sideline for most of Thursday night.
There are so many different ways the first round could play out in front of them that will affect who Baltimore will select.
Here are five different factors in play:
When does the run on offensive linemen start and how many will be included?
After Penei Sewell and Rashawn Slater come off the board, it remains to be seen when and how many offensive linemen follow them in the first round. Teams that are looking for offensive tackle help after the top-10 include the Las Angeles Chargers (13), Minnesota (14), Las Vegas (17), Washington (19), Chicago (20), Tennessee (22), Pittsburgh (24) and Jacksonville (25). Of course, they all have other needs as well.

Do Raiders use No. 17 pick on right tackle or trade it?

Say what you will about Clelin Ferrell, but the Raiders
did use the selection on a real and specific need at defensive end.
A year later, the Las Vegas Raiders' top need was a speedy receiver. Again, say what you will about Henry Ruggs III, but he and his 4.27-second 40
was the call at No. 12.
As pending Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Tom Flores has said, there is a fine line between drafting for a specific need and drafting the best player available. Because if you're drafting in, say, the top 10, you have needs all over the roster.
So here sit the Raiders and Mayock on a decidedly nondescript pick in the middle of no-man's land -- No. 17 overall. Yeah, the Raiders have needs, specifically right tackle and free safety, that could be addressed (the Raiders' second selection is not until No. 48). But Las Vegas, like 31 other teams, would
