Thane: Elderly woman found dead with throat slit at her house in Kalyan | Thane News

THANE: A 70-year old woman was found brutally murdered with her throat slit in her flat at Bazarpeth area in Kalyan on Saturday late night.
The woman was identified as Hansabai Thakkar. She was living alone for the past few years after her husband’s death.
The reason behind killing is yet to be known.
The murder came to light on Saturday night when Thakkar’s daughter, who is married in same area, reached the flat as she was not responding to her calls.
When Hansabai's daughter opened the door, she found blood-soaked body of her mother lying in the room. The police were summoned and Thakkar’s body was taken to Rukminibai hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Explosives had potential impact of 3,000 sq ft: Mumbai cops | Thane News

MUMBAI: Police said the 20 explosive gelatin sticks found in the vehicle near the Ambani reaidence weighed 2.5kg and had the potential for an impact that could have been felt over an area of 3,000sqft.
Police said another vehicle, an Innova, was tailing the SUV from Thane to Carmichael Road, where Ambani's bungalow Antilia is located. The Innova had a fake registration number and is yet to be traced.
The Scorpio owned by the Thane businessman was stolen on February 17 from the Mulund-Airoli route where it was parked due to a snag. Police said the gelatin sticks found in the vehicle were manufactured by a Nagpur company named Solar Industries, but the firm has no system of tracking individual explosive cartridges. A sports bag bearing the Mumbai Indian logo was also found in the vehicle.

No one was injured in mishap.
The vehicle was parked outside Patidar Hall while the Bharatiya Janta Party MP, along with his supporters, was attending a programme inside.
While the supporters removed other vehicles of convoy parked near the vehicle, including that of MP Patil, and tried to douse fire, the car was completely destroyed.

Life malfunctions in 18-storey building in Thane | Thane News


No one was injured in the incident as the lift was empty.
THANE: An elevator system in an 18-storey building in Khopat area developed a snag following which the lift capsule stationed at the ground floor suddenly shot upwards and got locked near the top floor of the structure in the wee hours of Tuesday, officials said.
The building is used as rental accommodation for project affected people and is nearly fully occupied.
Residents said they were awakened by a huge sound around 1.40am and rushed out and noticed the malfunction. They later alerted the municipal authorities.
No one was injured as the lift was empty. Initial probe revealed the pulley chain to have malfunctioned and a thorough investigation will be conduced soon, said municipal officials.

Maharashtra: Thane police recover laptop within two hours | Thane News


The laptop was returned to the owner on Monday night.
THANE: The Kapurbawadi traffic police in Maharashtra's Thane district recovered a laptop within two hours and returned it to the owner on Monday night.
Nikita Singh — while travelling from Chembur to her Thane home in an auto-rickshaw — realised that she had left her laptop in the vehicle after she got off.
She rushed to a nearby police station where a lost property complaint was filed.
Then she went to Kapurbawadi traffic police post where police naik Nisar Tadavi helped her track the device.
Tadavi said, “We went near her house in Kolshet and with the help of the CCTV footage, we got the vehicle registration number and traced the same on our e-challan machine."

Bhiwandi building collapse victims' kin get Rs 3 lakh compensation | Thane News


Thane Guardian Minister distributed cheques of Rs 5 lakh to family of the deceased in Jilani building collapse.
BHIWANDI: After five months of Jilani building collapse incident killing 38 people injuring 21, Thane's Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday handed cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to each injured.
The compensation amount includes Rs 3 lakh each from Chief Minister Relief Fund and Rs 2 lakh each from Prime Minister Relief Fund.
Meanwhile, in order to prevent such building collapses incidents in future in Bhiwandi, Shinde assured that a cluster scheme will be implemented in Bhiwandi on the lines of Thane city. Shinde also instructed civic officials to submit a proposal within three months.

Anant Tare Death: Shiv Sena leader Anant Tare passes away | Thane News

THANE: Shiv Sena leader, former mayor and MLC Anant Tare (67) passed away at a private hospital on Monday evening.
Tare was admitted few weeks back and breathed his last today, said party colleagues.
Tare was a firebrand leader of Shiv Sena and known to have worked at the grassroot levels.
He was appointed as the mayor thrice in the nineties and was subsequently nominated as the MLC.
He belonged to the Mahadeo Koli community and was known to have actively worked towards its betterment.
Party colleague and cabinet minister Eknath Shinde paid tributes to Tare and said that Shiv Sena has lost a true warrior and his void will always be felt in the city and party.

One killed, one injured in fire at labour colony of housing project in Dombivli | Thane News

KALYAN: One labourer died and another sustained grievous burn injuries after a fire broke out in labour colony of Runwal My City Housing Project in Dombivli at 6am on Sunday morning.
The fire was broke out in phase-2 of Rumaal My City project located in Usarghar area in Dombivli.
The fire started in a house built for workers which later spread in other room and 120 rooms built for 172 workers were gutted in the incident.
Luckily, when the fire took place, others workers managed to save their lives.
One worker Tapan Mahaldar (25) has died in this fire incident while another worker Suresh Kumar (32) is seriously injured and has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

Star tortoises repatriated to Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve for second time by Thane forest department | Thane News


The star tortoises come under schedule IV of the wildlife protection act 1972 and one can be fined and or imprisoned up to three years if found in their possession.
THANE: After getting a positive feedback of 70 star tortoises being repatriated within the state, at Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, another set of 32 star tortoises were sent by Thane forest department, on Wednesday.
Star tortoises were repatriated for the second time in less than two months to Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve.
Last month 70 star tortoises were repatriated to TATR, this was the first time that such initiative was taken within the state as earlier these tortoises were used to be sent to Karnataka.
