'We're far from freedom' says Shack Dwellers' Movement Updated Nothando Mkhize Share this: As the country marks Freedom Day today, informal settlement dwellers say they're still left to suffer 27 years into democracy. Shontel de Boer Shack dwellers' movement, Abahlali Basemjondolo's Thapelo Mohapi, says people living in shacks are still being denied their basic human rights.  "We are still living under difficult conditions that we have been living, post this so-called Freedom, so we cannot really say we are free when are dying and burning in fires.
