Are We Locked Into Another Drought? | 98.1 The Breeze

By Jack Kulp
We’re headed into the second dry year in a row here in California.
That’s according to UC Davis environmental engineering professor Jay Lund. The whole West Coast has been locked into a drought that started in 1999. It’s called a megadrought. The “March Miracle”, enough rainfall to get us ahead, never happened. 90% of California is locked into drought conditions.
The snowpack in the Sierra, responsible for much of the state’s water supply, never materialized either. It amounted to only 60% of the average last month.

An 87-Year Old Bay Area Tradition Is Back! | 98.1 The Breeze

It looks like one of the Bay Area’s longest running county fairs is on this year.
The San Mateo County Fair is ON this year, after being cancelled last year for only the second time in it’s 87-year history. Fair organizers were playing around with the idea of a drive through fair, but that plan was quickly scrapped, thanks to the county’s new orange tier status.
Masks will be required, maximum capacity will be 25% and tickets will only be sold online to maintain the 25% capacity limit. The fair will run June 5-6 and June 9-13

Bay Area Transit Workers Go On Strike
If you haven’t commuted to work since the pandemic hit, here’s how much time you saved.
The average amount of time saved in the US by not commuting to work? 8.6 days! In San Francisco and Oakland it’s about 11 days, and San Jose a bit over 9 days. In LA, it’s about 10 days. The number comes from the Census Bureau, and the number of days most people work in a year, about 242.8, factoring sick days and vacation time.
Jack & Carolyn talked about this on the Morning Breeze. Listen here:

Marin Resident Talks About Life 1 Year After Being Hospitalized With Covid | 98.1 The Breeze

By Carolyn McArdle

Stacy Allegro from Marin was one of the first people we spoke with at the beginning on the pandemic. It was about a month in and we saw her story on the news. On March 18, 2020, Stacy started getting symptoms after her husband returned from a trip to Morocco. Eleven days later she was in the emergency room with COVID-19.
Stacy said she'll always remember her medical team at Kaiser in Marin and how helpful they were. She used to leave them notes on the wall in her hospital room. She recalled how they all looked like they were from "outer space" due to the hazmat suits they wore in the hospital at the beginning of the pandemic and none of us knew what to expect.
