Tsunami hit more than three weeks ago. lee cowan is live in tokyo for us. first up, i guess most importantly, the status on getting the crack sealed. where does it stand now? reporter: undetermined, i guess, at this point, alex. they tried over the last 24 hours to fill that pit with concrete in hopes of sealing the crack off. that didn t work. later this afternoon what they tried was to use chemical polymers including mixing it with saw dust, old newspaper to help the absorption. they were helping to clog the pipes up so no more water would come in. that didn t work so they are back to the drawing board trying to figure out how to stop the radioactive water from leaking into the ocean. the issue is just because they stop it from leaking into the ocean doesn t mean it will stop building up. they have to circulate now fresh water around the reactors to keep the reactors cool. so the more water they put in ....
