The wheels, or rotors, on the top are rotated so the next letter is encoded in a different way. what goes on inside each of the rotors is the electrical current from one of these contact pins underneath is being transferred to another contact pin through these wires. you press a letter here and it gets turned into one letter there, another there, another there and then back out. yes. of course the enigma code was eventually cracked through some slip—ups by the german operators in codes that were sent, but also thanks to the hard work of the codebreakers at bletchley park. including, of cours...
