However, just as it expands in India and gets deeper with localisation, Skoda has also said that the government should allow easier import of parts and do away with special tax benefits reserved only for cars under 4 metres.

Schaefer, in an interview over Skype, said any car maker cannot afford to remain in India to cater to India alone. The (manufacturing) base has to play a very strong role in making cars for the overseas markets and as Skoda begins a ‘new journey’, it expects India to potentially account for 8-10% of its global production.
