Jamie Richards is too busy to get caught up in the emotion of what Melody Belle is expected to achieve at Te Rapa on Saturday.
The champion trainer realises if his great mare wins the Herbie Dyke and becomes New Zealand's most successful Group 1 thoroughbred it is special in our racing history and he will be the man who helped make it happen.

Wellington Cup winner Waisake may tackle Adelaide as trainer hails 'genuine stayer'

Sharrock had long felt Waisake could be a "two-mile'' contender and said the preparation paid off.
"We got to the right race at the right weight [53kg], and fortunately I had the right jockey, as well.
"Two mile races are probably one of the ultimate goals for a trainer; it takes a lot of work and if executive you know you've ticked the box properly.
"I got a great thrill out of that, mate.''

Rock on Wood was killed in the events feature race, the Harcourts sponsored Thorndon Mile, at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting at Trentham yesterday. He was six-years-old.
His death occurred whilst the Coalition of the Protection of Racehorses (CPR) was protesting outside the course, warning attendees about this very thing and holding signs stating
Harcourts Kills Horses.
“We are devastated to learn of the death of Rock On Wood but by no means surprised” said CPR Wellington spokesperson Frances Baker. “Horses are often killed on the racetrack due to being pushed too hard for gambling profits.”

Melody Belle has equalled Sunline's record of 13 Group One wins by a New Zealand horse with victory in Saturday's Thorndon Mile at Trentham.
The Jamie Richards-trained mare was expected to get the job done in her first-up run for the campaign, sent around as the $1.40 favourite.
While she was made to fight for the record-matching victory, Melody Belle's class shone through, taking out the Thorndon Mile by just over a length.

Superstar mare Melody Belle has matched Kiwi legend Sunline on 13 Group 1 victories with a strong win in the Thorndon Mile at Trentham on Saturday.
Melody Belle was sent around as a $1.30F in the feature race and while her brave rivals made her work for the win, she was ultimately too classy as she drew clear to score by a length under regular rider Opie Bosson for prolific trainer Jamie Richards.
The outstanding daughter of Commands has now won 12 Group 1 races in New Zealand to go with her Australian success in the 2019 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington.

Trainer Jamie Richards had plenty of firepower in racing action on the track at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day, but also took the time to stretch the legs of some of his team members being set for upcoming major assignments.
Dual Horse of the Year Melody Belle, exciting three-year-old Need I Say More and Gr.1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby (2400m) prospect Supreme Khan each had a day out in preparation for their respective goals over the next few weeks.
Not seen since her win in the Gr.1 Livamol Classic (2040m) in October, Melody Belle worked home nicely over 1000m which she covered in 59 seconds, coming her last 600m in 34 seconds.
