Sibongile Khumalo's final bow
The daughter of Khabi Mngoma, who was a music professor, Khumalo took to the arts easily. She obtained degrees from the University of Zululand and Wits University and, throughout her life, was awarded honorary doctorates from various institutions. While she was a teacher and the head of the music department at the Fuba (Federated Union of Black Artists) Centre in 1992, Khumalo was offered a residency at the legendary Kippies jazz lounge in Johannesburg, titled Three Faces of Sibongile Khumalo because she performed three sets a day for six days a week.
