During his controversial tenure in the Trump administration, then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo faced so many ethics controversies, it's been difficult to keep up with each of them. The Kansas Republican's ethics messes were so severe that last May -- late on a Friday night -- Donald Trump fired the State Department's inspector general at Pompeo's behest.

Last year, when he was still secretary of state, Mike Pompeo dismissed accusations that he or his wife, Susan, had asked State Department staff to walk his dog or perform other personal tasks as “patently false” and “crazy stuff.”
On Friday, a State Department inspector general’s report concluded that the Pompeos had deployed government employees not just to take care of their dog, but to make restaurant reservations and hair salon appointments, deliver jewelry to their home, prepare their personal Christmas cards, order flowers for some friends, pick up others at hotels and, in one case, buy ingredients for what appeared to be a chocolaty mixed drink for a charity auction.

Pompeo violated ethics rules, State Department watchdog finds

A federal watchdog has found that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
The report from the State Department Office of Inspector General (OIG) found that both the former secretary and his wife requested a political appointee and other employees in the Office of the Secretary to carry out personal tasks, such as picking up personal items; mailing Christmas cards; taking care of pets; and planning events unrelated to the State Department’s mission. Politico first reported on the watchdog's findings.
The investigation was launched in October 2019 in response to a whistleblower complaint that Pompeo and his wife were misusing State Department’s funds for personal purposes.
