KEVIN STENT/Stuff Train driver David Jin says the view of the city from a southbound train can’t be beaten. ​Metlink train driver David Jin​ is often among the very first Wellingtonians to start their day, taking hundreds of early commuters to work. He told The Dominion Post about the magical views he sees from his driving cab. How long have you been a Wellingtonian? Just shy of 2½ years. I’m one of the more recently-minted Wellingtonians, having moved here in late 2018 from Christchurch to become a train driver with Transdev Wellington, the operator of the Metlink rail services.

KiwiRail told to address safety issues after close call at Wellington station

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) found the driver of the Hutt Valley train was distracted by a radio call and failed to stop. The commission said it identified safety concerns at the station three years ago and raised these with KiwiRail. It said KiwiRail should review its arrangements to try to reduce the risk by providing better communication between train drivers. The commission said if these recommendations were not properly addressed, the risk to the transport system would remain.
