Catholic Bishops under the aegis of Reunion of Episcopal Conferences of West Africa (RECOWA) have called on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Heads of State, and Government to restrain from the use of force to restore the constitutional government in the Niger Republic. RECOWA, comprising all Catholic Cardinals, Archbishops, and Bishops in West Africa, raised concerns that the consequences of the proposed military intervention in Niger might be dire to the security of the entire West African sub-region.
