And then the politics of immigration. yes. and people are cynical right now. because we ve been saying this since the 90s. we need immigration reform. and dreamers are in this bind. they were giving this pathway for residents, residential status and now they re in limbo. can they get this in this sort of reconciliation bill and right now senator shumer is trying to be kind of like the lbj but he s not as tall and can t give everybody the treatment. he s not in that position, but he needs to have this strategy to get this 50/50 split senate to get this over the line. can he do this with dreamers, infrastructure, and by the way, some senators are asking us, what do you know? is my broad band in there, the infrastructure? senators want this broadband. they want the infrastructure, especially with water. where travel governments are struggling with water treatment and clean water. water issues everywhere, but particularly in the west. ....
Americans. and then a couple other key pieces, there s something that has to do with the supreme court ruling that basically said travel governments has no jurisdiction over non-native americans on tribal lands and the result has been that a lot of tribal people have not been able to seek justice, even for heinous crimes like in the case of rape. it also deals with resources, including taking away permits for pipelines that go through a tribal land. this is a hefty bill, and politically speaking it s very interesting because the post that she put out was very long but made no mention of her own family s an seftry. this is the reason she fell in hot political water earlier this year. she s been attacked by the president with the derogatory nickname he s given her. i find it interesting that she s going there on this. she could have stayed away and not focused on this a lot. if you look ahead to her schedule it s on monday that ....
And 80s when this wasn t considered a crime, that, i think, has changed. we re in a different generation. we accept that domestic violence is a crime. what are we going to do about it? it s the social funding that we need more of. tying the hands of cops and telling them to arrest everybody is always a bad idea. well, i think here s the really interesting thing. travel governments have traditionally had more of a restorative angle to their justice systems and law enforcement are often trained in the tribal perspective to work with the victims and work with their families. and if tribes are given that jurisdiction back maybe we can create models that could be applied in a mainstream american there s a lot going on in tribal governments and no one ever looks at that. goldie i m curious what you think about this. i ve been the woman standing at the door when the cops arrive afraid to talk. and because i could not talk, there was no arrest. it took me getting stabbed for ....
