wildfires out west, the oak fire had mariposa county, california exploded in size last night. it has burned more than 4,300 acres near yosemite national park and is zero percent contained. the extreme heat in the northeast has forced organizers to postpone tomorrow's boston triathalon. new york city's triathalon will go on but with some changes. our polo sandoval joins us from new york. polo, how are organizers going to keep participants safe in the heat? >> reporter: so for that triathalon, it's still scheduled to go down tomorrow morning but what they did is essentially scaled back the distance of the running and the cycling portion for the 2,000 if not more participants of that yearly event. it draws crowds from around the world. the concern is about heat illness. they've taken the step because of the oppressive heat that's scorched the house, now it's our turn in the northeast.

An athlete who was diagnosed with cancer is encouraging others with different types of disabilities to push through and continue their athletic goals.

PHOENIX — It's 4:30 in the morning and Timothy Bolen is gearing up to go for the ultimate hike.
"The goal is to be done before dark," Bolen says. "We'll go from 5 in the morning until 6, 6:30 at night."
Alongside his friends, he's preparing to climb Piestewa Peak a total of 10 times. That's about 23 miles and 11,000 feet of elevation.
After a quick photo, the group begins the day-long climb. While each step isn't easy, Bolen says he'll push through.

poorsao paulo suburb. at 18, she touched a high voltage wire. i was in the hospital for three months she says. i lost both hands, my right leg and the toes on my left foot. as part of her recovery, she started to swim. that was when she met brazilian marathon runner. she started running sprints but realized without hands to push off with, she would never be competitive. once i started doing sports, my dream was to one day participate in the paralympics, she says. thinking and looking at the options, i decided to go for the triathalon, she started to train this year. she's aiming for the 2016 games in rio de janeiro. it was a couple of months ago that she finally got access to a professional track. she trains with her husband, also a visually impaired athlete aiming for rio 2016.
