Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized that women empowerment is not a political issue for the BJP but an integral part of its work culture. Speaking during a debate on the women's reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, Shah stated that the passage of the Bill would lead to "women-led development" in the country. The Bill, which proposes 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, was passed with overwhelming support.
The women's reservation bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, which was seen as a major step towards stronger participation of women in politics. However, the exclusion of an OBC sub-quota from the draft legislation was criticized. K Kavitha, an advocate for women's representation, had called on political parties to prioritize the passage of the bill. The bill was eventually passed with a majority vote. The Rajya Sabha is expected to take up the bill on Thursday. The Special Session of Parliament began on Monday and will continue till Friday.
Women’s Reservation Bill, providing 33 percent reservation to women in Parliament and state assemblies was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Notably, this is the first time in the history that the bill was passed in the lower house. Now, the bill is set to clear Rajya Sabha today.
