JOHANNESBURG - Undertakers from various organisations are planning to shut down Home Affairs offices nationwide on Wednesday morning, which will likely create administrative havoc but the impact on grieving families is not yet known.
The Unification Task Team, which represents several undertakers, is hoping to intensify its protest by closing several Home Affairs offices.
They want government to amend regulations so they can remove bodies from mortuaries, hospitals and forensic laboratories for burial. ....

Despite a no-show by protesters at most Home Affairs offices, the task team’s Muzi Hlengwa was adamant that the protest would continue, adding that they had had delays as they were assisting their members who were arrested in Pretoria on Tuesday.

JOHANNESBURG - It’s been business as usual at Home Affairs offices around Johannesburg and Cape Town on Wednesday despite threats of a national shutdown by funeral undertakers over the issuing of death certificates.

Gauteng police have arrested two people for possession of an unlicensed firearm and public violence during the funeral undertakers protest in the Tshwane CBD.

Unification Task Team (UTT), which represents black-owned funeral parlours, picketed at the Department of Home Affairs in Tshwane on Tuesday. 
It is unhappy with the department s certificate of competence, which is submitted before transporting a body from a mortuary, hospital, or forensic laboratory. 
Tshwane Metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says a firearm was confiscated during the protest.  
We can confirm that currently, the situation is calm, two people were arrested where one was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and the other for public violence.  ....

COPS have fired rubber bullets at protesting undertakers outside the Home Affairs offices in Tshwane.
The Unification Task Team (UTT) took to the streets of Tshwane, protesting outside the Home Affairs department offices on Tuesday morning.
As the protest turned violent, the leaders of UTT suggested that they would have to close their offices around the country which could affect funerals and shutdown the Home Affairs .
UTT wants Home Affairs to allow funeral undertakers who don’t have a certificate of competence, to write designation number examinations.
It also wants funeral directors to be allowed to appoint a proxy to conduct some of its duties on their behalf. ....

Aggrieved Gauteng funeral parlours say they will intensify their protest from Tuesday and “shut down” all home affairs offices across SA until their complaints over the department’s regulations are addressed.
The companies, under the banner of the Unification Task Team (UTT), want the department to amend regulations so they have the right to remove bodies from mortuaries, hospitals and forensic laboratories for burial. ....
