New Delhi/IBNS: Art can cohabit with bureaucracy and be more political than cultural, said renowned Italian art critic Achille Bonito Oliva as New Delhi's Bikaner House threw open a grand show of contemporary Italian art from May 26.

'The Grand Italian Vision', which showcases avant-garde works of sculpture, mosaic, painting, photography, and installations, also marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Italy, Italian ambassador Vincenzo de Luca said at the opening ceremony.

Hours before it opened on May 26, Vincenzo de Luca, Ambassador of Italy to India and Nepal, noted how with this exhibition, notable contemporary art from Italy is travelling to India.

Originally housed in the Palazzo della Farnesina, the building for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Rome, the collection with more than 530 works by 280 artists was accumulated by then secretary general Umberto Vattani.The Grand Italian Vision, which showcases avant-garde works of sculpture, mosaic, painting, photography, and installations, also marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Italy, Italian ambassador Vincenzo de Luca said at the opening ceremony.
