i felt like my house blew off the foundation. the house just shook and my pictures fell off the walls. the roof had been blown off. the sides and the windows were blown out. there was a gentleman on the ground not moving. it was pretty scary. not knowing what was going on. we thought it was a house explosion. and it was scary. until we found out exactly what was going on. alisyn: the fire marshal says air quality around the blast shows no signs of contamination. they are look into what caused this explosion. bill: some people are calling this financial martial-law. the governor of michigan backing a bill to take control of ....
Exposed, unit 2 there and now we know the water is rising again, so, they are trying to get it under control. but also as you said, there was a blast, earlier today, unit 3, seems to be a hydrogen leak, which caused that. the same problem which blew up unit one on saturday. so, the japanese government at this time says they believe the reactors, all three of the reactors have not been breached. so, there isn t any massive radiation exposure coming out of these reactors, but, there is major concern here, and they have got a 12 mile radius around the plant, keeping everybody away from there, but, some european governments are urging their difference to leave the country, now, particularly, tokyo, which is only as i said, 160 miles south of here, but, the u.s. ambassador to japan, he held a news conference a short ....
Good morning, everyone. i m eric shawn. welcome to a brand new hour of america s news headquarters. jamie: i m jamie colby. the japanese are already suffering from so much devastation and now, they are dealing with the fear of a nuclear meltdown. eric: david piper is live in tokyo with the latest. let s start with the situation around the nuclear reactors. we hear now that they say time is running out. what does that mean? reporter: that is right. there has been a news conference in the last few minutes and the japanese media are reporting that there is a unit at the fukushima plant we have all been focusing on and they say time is running out to save the nuclear reactors. they are also saying that unit one, they may have to act to maybe seal it from the outside world within three hours now. suggesting there could be a nuclear meltdown now and they need to protect the japanese community for any escape of radiation. ....
Attempt to manage the cooling there and now, unit 3, which is in the same vicinity, is facing the same problems. the japanese officials suspect there has been a partial melt down. and, more importantly, they decided to flood that one with sea water and boric acid, writing off another billion dollar plant that never will operate again. but that is what you do when you have no other options left and you are desperately trying to cool the plan and as you say, they have taken samples around the plant and that is how they figured out there might be a partial melt down because they found iodine in the air around the plants and you only get that if there has been a partial melt down. eric: what does that mean air partial melted down, what happens inside the nuclear reactor and the fuel rods, does the stuff escape and is there a way to try and control it. those are the key question, eric, and let me start with the last one first. how can you control it? well, again, they are taking every e ....
