Bobi Wine speaks out on Magere land dispute

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has said the dispute over the ownership of 640 acres of Magere land is “another form of government persecution” targeting him.
Bobi Wine told Daily Monitor in an interview yesterday that he acquired his land, which is part of that dispute, in 2002 and that he has all the documents to support his occupancy of it.
He also revealed that he bought part of the disputed land before most of the current occupants had settled on it.
“These have been schemes by the government to see that I don’t remain with anything. All my properties have since been contested following my presidential bid. I am not scared because I have the land title to this land and many Ugandans on this land, just like have been on other pieces of land, are suffering because of me,” Bobi Wine said. ....

UNITY Platform publishes annual report on violence against sexual and gender minorities in Cameroon

The UNITY Platform, a network of 34 organizations for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, has just published its 2020 annual report on violence against sexual and gender minorities in Cameroon. The report, produced annually by all the associations that the platform covers, shows more than 2000 cases of violence and violations of the rights of sexual and gender minorities affecting 930 people in 2020, compared to just less than 1400 in 2019. More than half of the reported cases involved psychological violence, with the rest consisting of cases of physical, sexual, economic or legal violence and hate speech. Gay men were the most affected victims of violence (552), followed by lesbians (214) and transgender people (64). ....

At least 222 National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters have been released after spending more than four months under security detention around the country.
NUP party leaders, who spoke to Daily Monitor yesterday on condition of anonymity, claimed they have documented up to about 158 names of supporters who have been dumped in different places while others have been granted bail at different courts. ....
