VAN WERT — The Van Wert County Health District held a volunteer appreciation luncheon at Willow Bend on July 14 to honor all of their volunteers and staff for their invaluable help during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The number of volunteers working varied from day to day. During clinics district may have had as many as 15 volunteers working. They had approximately 60 different volunteers who helped at one time or another.

The district did not track hours for volunteers, but some worked nearly every day of the work week from 8:00 to 4:30. Some may have only worked 4 hours once a week.

Vaccine clinic moved to Middle School

The vaccination clinic that was to be held today, Friday, February 5, at the Council on Aging, will be moved to Van Wert Middle School Gymnasium due to the condition of the parking lot at the Council on Aging.
The clinic was scheduled by appointment only and all appointment times are the same. Go to the middle school side at Van Wert High School/Middle School and enter through the middle school gymnasium, door M44. CERT will be there directing traffic.
There will be no shots given in cars today. Those who are scheduled for today and are unable make it or need to have different accommodations will be called to reschedule. They will not be removed from the vaccination list or moved to the bottom of the list.

Health officials ready to roll out vaccine when it arrives

The Van Wert County Health District is ready to implement COVID-19 vaccinations — just as soon as the vaccines make it here.
County Environmental Health Director Britt Menchhofer said local health officials don’t have a date yet when the first vaccine shipment will arrive here, but thinks it will be relatively soon.
“At this time, we actually still do not know when we will be getting the vaccine,” Menchhofer said. “”I know they’re talking, potentially, this Wednesday, but it may be next week.”
Fortunately, she added, the local health district conducts planning sessions on a regular basis to prepare for mass vaccinations and other health emergency situations, so there are plans in place to deal with a vaccine rollout.
