Nairobi (AFP) May 2, 2024 - Kenyan President William Ruto on Thursday named Charles Muriu Kahariri as defence chief after the death of his predecessor in a helicopter crash.
"None of you has been appointed to serve your communities, regions or faiths."
Ruto highlighted the capacity of the military.
In the past, all military commanders had to have been service commanders, Kahariri did not.
General Charles Kahariri Muriu has been sworn in as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
