Scammers send out texts offering delivery jobs at Nexus Brewery

Created: July 23, 2021 04:55 PM
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Scammers are targeting job-seekers in Albuquerque.
A text is making the rounds, saying Nexus Brewery is looking for "good and honest" people to make deliveries.
The pay? $1,500 weekly.
"I did have a customer call the other day and they were asking if we were hiring truck drivers," Kenneth Carson, owner of Nexus Brewery, said. "Of course, we said no."
Carson said no one at Nexus sent out those texts, and they aren't hiring delivery drivers.
So if it's not Nexus – who is behind it? KOB 4 tried calling the number that sent the text, but no luck.

Better Business Bureau warns of travel-related scams

Created: May 09, 2021 08:28 PM
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — As more people start to feel comfortable traveling again, the Better Business Bureau is warning people to be on the lookout for travel scams.
"Right now in New Mexico, most of us are in Turquoise. That may not be the case in other states,” said Victoria Carreon, with the Better Business Bureau. “You want to be sure that you're not being sold a vacation package or experience that you can't actually partake in."
The Better Business Bureau said there’s been a rise in reported cases of travel scams. One scam asks people to send money via Cash App for a vacation, only to be left with nothing.

Better Business Bureau warns of death threat message scams

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — When it comes to scams, New Mexicans aren't holding on to their wallets as tight as they could. According to the FBI, people in New Mexico lost 18 million dollars to internet scams in 2019.
One of the top tactics con artists use is fear. Albuquerque resident Barbara Gregus said she got a threatening message to her work email:
"As I am writing to you now my men are monitoring you ... do you want to LIVE OR DIE? As someone has paid us to kill you... Get back to me now if you are ready to pay some fees to spare your life."
