IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar has asked virtual private network (VPN) service providers to follow the latest directions issued by CERT-In.
CERT-In released the much-awaited clarifications on its new cyber security directions, issued on April 28, in FAQ format.
While some directions seem like the need of the hour (such as mandatorily reporting data breaches) and definitively aim at ensuring cyber security, others (such as collecting and storing personal data by VPN providers) fall short of this aim.
VPN providers Nord, Proton, Windscribe, and Mullvad objected to India's new rules on storing customer info and said they will not comply.
Cybersecurity experts spared no time in criticising CERT-In's new cybersecurity directions for a long list of reasons.
