Council votes to lower residential speed limits to 40 km/h this year
Article content Calgary drivers will have to slow down to 40 km/h on residential streets after city council voted Monday to lower neighbourhood speed limits instead of putting the issue on municipal ballots. The current default, unposted speed limit in Calgary is 50 km/h. Council voted 10-4 to push it down 10 km/h in a bid to reduce collisions that hurt or kill people. The change, which takes effect May 31, means that if you don’t see a speed sign on the road, you should assume the limit is 40 km/h. We apologize, but this video has failed to load.
