Better photos, a mobile app, web resources. the guidebook has its place and it s a big one, just not the same place. now, instead of information on hotel places, it s filled with stories and experiences. the problems we are trying to solve are changing. people increasingly aren t so worried about finding things like accommodation or reviews. they can find those in lots of places. they really want lonely planet to advise them on how best to spend their time, what they can do, great experiences they can have and how they can connect with people and places they are visiting. it was a big change in philosophy that required a lot of new thinking and buy in. after all, they have been doing things the same way over 40 years. but, it s working. today, guidebook sales are up 27% and they have a growing social media audience. the challenge now is to not fall behind again. we were a partner with google ....
