Hello, everybody Welcome to high school. O. T. I'm Kyle morton. I'm joined today by Havelock running back and UNC Football. Sign me tomorrow. Edmonds tomorrow. Thank you for taking the time to join me today. How are you doing? Doing? Pretty good. Thank you for having me. Absolutely. Uh, it's been an unbelievable year for you guys. We're going to talk about some other stuff, but I want to just kind of get your thoughts overall on this year. How is it kind of been having a spring season and uh, kind of going through all the protocols and making sure you guys stay sharp and ready every week. Well, you know, uh, of course the players and we've been working pretty hard to coaches Got him. It's really hard to some spring, you know, they told us to stay away from each other because of Covid so we can play. We've seen a lot of teams like get kicked out because of Covid. So we just wanted to make sure we follow directions and kept working hard. You guys have been working hard for this year for a long time. I know it was, it was really tough for, for you guys as a team when the fall season got pushed back and we didn't know if you're going to have a season. It's been building and building for years now. What does it mean to you and the rest of the team to, to finally be at the point where Havelock is back in the state championship game. It's just a blessing. And all we can do is thank each other and the coaches because, uh, we all stayed in each other. You know, we all became leaders and we just focused. So now we're here trying to get the ring. You knew you had something special all along. I think pretty much everyone who follows high school football knew you guys had something special. Uh, But you really proved it right away. You beat northeastern 52-15 and Wallace Rose Hill 56-7 the first two weeks. Um, you know, those are two really good teams. Northeastern was just in the regional final and obviously everyone knows how good Wallace Rose Hill is. The, those two wins kind of solidify that for you, just how good you guys are as a team. Yes, A lot of it did a lot. Um, we just wanted to make a statement. You know, people doubted us and we just wanted to make a statement that we're the best team right now. So, Uh, for you personally, you had a big decision. You're one of the top recruits in the class of 2021 in North Carolina. Um, a lot of the guys who were ranked around where you are made the decision to to pass up on their senior year and enroll early. Obviously, you know, that's a personal case by case decision. That was the right move for some of these guys. How long did it kind of take you to, to come to the decision you came to to stay or was it kind of a no brainer? My decision was to stay off the rip because I just wanted to play out my senior year. You only get one senior year, you know, and I just want to stay back and play with the guys and try and make something happen. Uh, you're a part of a really special backfield with sophomore quarterback Andrew fraser. Um, what have you kind of seen from him? I know we talked over summer and you are excited to see what he was going to look like as a sophomore. How is he kind of progressed from his freshman to his sophomore year? He's progressed a lot. He became a leader, very young and man, you're gonna be something special. But he's really working hard. We stay on top of him about his, uh, his grades working out, you know, just make sure he's straight in the game, make sure he's focused that we keep him calm during the game. So you see what he does when he's called um, for your decision was was it kind of, I know you said you knew right off the rip, but um, you look at Glen with Rara. Um, and uh, Jabari made the decision to go right away. Their coach tweeted out like, hey guys go be great. I know what's best for you is to go this year. Uh, what kind of conversations did you have with your coaching staff? Did they kind of leave it up to you? Or did they say, hey, we want you back because we know this year can be special. My coach said they would be fine with any decision I make, they just wanted me to do great wherever whatever decision I made, they wanted me to work my hardest and do as much as I could, but when I decided to stay there was like, it was happy about itself. Um you know, it's tough, it's a tough spot for kids to be in A lot of these kids, you know, passed up on a senior year, You look at Wil Shipley, um he goes to Clemson, Weddington Falls, just short in the playoffs. Did you kind of feel like you owed it to the guys on your team to, to stay around and help them get this ring? Yeah, I feel like I told the boys a lot because we've lost, we lost the playoffs, we lost against charlotte catholic my freshman year, I just wanted to get the ring for the boys, you know, help them out and see what we can make significant, make something happen. You know, you get another shot at charlotte catholic again in the state championship game coming up on friday night. Um obviously they're here every year, they're an outstanding program. You know, you're familiar with them from that experience, your freshman year. What are you guys kind of expecting in terms of the type of game, it's going to be on friday. Um, it's not gonna be easy, that's for sure that team is very disciplined and we just got to come out on top, we got to come out very fast and we got to just gotta work hard execute. I just got to do our jobs. I think a lot of people were looking forward to your game against Western elements last week because it was so close in the playoffs in 2019. You guys won by a touchdown this year. You won by 30-49-17. What was kind of the difference between 2019 and 2020 and allowing you guys to go from beating them close to blowing them out? Well this year we knew we was gonna see them again and we knew they had the same team, we had the same team and we knew that they were going to come out hard because of what happened last year. But we pretty much have we had a mindset to just go out there and start off heavy, you know score as many as possible. Lock up on defense and we started the main players and we watched a lot of film on them and we executed and got the dogs. Uh U. N. C. Had a spring game recently. We got to see a lot of those kids who did decide to enroll early drake may was impressive. Um you know, for you and see fans who haven't gotten to see you in Chapel Hill or at the spring game. Uh what's your message to to them to be excited for you to arrive on campus in the fall and I just don't be a hard worker. You know that's pretty much it. I'm being I'm a hardworking.
