L&I Announces $2.6 Million Available to Prepare Students for Good Jobs in the Post-Pandemic Economy

Harrisburg, PA – Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) Acting Secretary Jennifer Berrier announced today $2.6 million in Schools-to-Work program grants is available to support new partnerships between schools, employers, organizations, or associations to create employment and training career paths for students. Gov Tom Wolf has proposed to inject $3 billion in the workforce development through his Back to Work PA plan that would prepare workers for the post-pandemic economy.
The Schools-to-Work program grants will create hands-on learning opportunities for students, including apprenticeships, workplace visits and internships that will create career paths to employment or secondary education, said Berrier. These funds will help ensure that our workers obtain the industry-recognized skills, certifications or college credits needed to put them on a solid career path to employment and help meet current and future labor market needs. ....

Wolf proposes natural gas tax to fund Pa. economic development package

Implementing an extraction tax upon Pennsylvania's natural gas industry would provide the state with $3 billion in economic development funding over the next 10 years, Gov. Tom Wolf said Monday as he made his case for the Back to Work PA initiative. Wolf said that a severance tax would provide the state with about $300 million per year over the next decade to reinvest into Pennsylvania's economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

Support innovation and entrepreneurs by developing a funding strategy to foster the creation of new companies and attract and retain talent in Pennsylvania.
Provide strategic financial planning opportunities for municipalities so that they can address the revenue losses experienced during the pandemic and prepare for potential future economic disruptions:
Expand Municipal Assistance Program (MAP) to provide additional services to municipalities.
Expand and Reform Act 47.
Expand Strategic Management Planning Program (STMP).
