World Book Day 2021: Children get hooked to books amid the Covid-19 lockdown

World Book Day 2021: Children get hooked to books amid the Covid-19 lockdown
With reality being turned on its head, thanks to the current pandemic, children — especially pre-teens — are turning towards books, both physical and virtual, to broaden their horizons
When the world around doesn’t make sense anymore and all you want to do is shut out reality, losing yourself in a book is the best escape. As words leap out from a page and paint a picture of distant lands with different stories, life as we know it, seems a bit better. As adults are struggling to cope with the pandemic, so are children. Fortunately, the latter seem to have discovered the joy of reading to steer them through this difficult time.

What date is World Book Day 2021, ideas for costumes and how to get involved

Tuesday, March 2, 2021
It's that time of year again when we raid the back of the cupboard in order to try and piece together a last minute literary-inspired outfit. Fear not. Help is at hand to take away the stress of the homeschool dress-up day.
Falling on Thursday 4 March this year, schools will still be closed due to lockdown restrictions but dressing up is still on the cards.
Celebrated in over 100 countries, the idea was created by Unesco in April 1995 to celebrate the beauty of books for children and to highlight how important it is “to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own”.
