New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday to review the COVID-19 situation and the vaccination programme amid a surge in coronavirus cases.
PTI sources said top officials, including the cabinet secretary, principal secretary to the prime minister, health secretary and NITI Aayog member Vinod Paul, attended the meeting.

Police and Army personnel on duty, government employees on duty, essential services, medical emergency are exempted, reported news agency ANI.
21:46 PM IST: aharashtra on Thursday recorded 14,317 new coronavirus cases, the highest one-day spike this year, which took its caseload to 22,66,374, a health official said. With 57 fatalities, the death toll reached 52,667, he said.
On October 7 the state had reported 14,578 cases after which the number of daily cases had declined. As many as 7,193 patients were discharged from hospitals on Thursday, taking the total of recoveries to 21,06,400.

20:51 PM IST: Odisha’s COVID-19 tally mounted to 3,37,929 on Wednesday as 69 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said.Of the new cases, 41 were reported from quarantine centres and 28 detected during contact tracing. Sundargarh district recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 14, followed by Cuttack (11) and Mayurbhanj (8). The death toll remained unchanged at 1,917 as no new fatality has been reported in the last eight days, he said. Fifty-three other COVID-19 patients have died due to comorbidities in the state, the official said.

Coronavirus March 5 HIGHLIGHTS: India reported 16,838 new Covid-19 cases and 113 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said Friday morning. The active caseload stands at 1,76,319. Delhi recorded 261 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest number of daily cases reported in the city, at least since February beginning. Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 8,998 new cases along with 60 fatalities in a day. Besides, the cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in India has crossed 1.77 crore (1,77,11,287), the ministry said on Thursday. A total of 10,93,954 vaccine doses were given on Thursday, the 48th day of the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive. Several central and state minister have received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine since the beginning of Phase 2 of the immunisation drive.

Data released by the state government's health department said 51,997 recipients received the Covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday during 894 sessions as against the target of 73,673. This puts the percentage of beneficiaries vaccinated today against the planned target at 71 per cent.
