On Monday, Epic Games announced that as part of preliminary approval for a class-action settlement it will give users of
Fortnite‘s “Save the World” mode who purchased “loot boxes” 1,000 V-Bucks, which is Fortnite’s in-game currency.
These loot boxes appeared as “loot llamas” in the game, purchasing would give the player randomized items. Fortnite: Save the World contained these randomized loot boxes until at least 2019, when Epic Games changed its loot box system to allow players to see what was inside the boxes before purchasing by replacing the “loot llamas” with “X-Ray” Llamas.

Epic Games to settle Fortnite lawsuit with V-Bucks in-game currency

The payment is in response to “Loot Llamas” that were found within the popular shooter’s PvE campaign until at least 2019. The items in question featured randomised rewards rather than a clear indication of what a player would receive.
“We’re dropping 1000 V-Bucks into the accounts of all players globally who bought a random item Loot Llama in STW before we stopped offering them,” Epic Games said on the
Fortnite Twitter account. “No action needed, if you purchased this item you should see the V-Bucks in your account over the next few days.”
A second tweet linked the move back to the Loot Llamas.

Fortnite: Save the World players who purchased random loot boxes when they were available can expect to see 1,000 V-Bucks added to their account in the coming days. The move is part of Epic Games' efforts to settle a class action lawsuit filed against it over loot boxes, as approved by the Superior Court of North Carolina. Epic used to sell the blind item boxes for
Save the World (and for
Rocket League) until early 2019 when it decided to replace V-Buck Llamas with X-Ray Llamas, which allow players to see what they'll get before purchasing a box.
Although the settlement is supposed to be for US players only, Epic says it will "make this benefit available to players globally." They won't even need to do anything like a file a claim to get the in-game money. As
