LA Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer presented with NL Cy Young Award
LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer was presented with his 2020 National League Cy Young Award during pregame ceremonies Tuesday night by Cincinnati Reds pitching coach Derek Johnson.
Bauer led the National League in 2020 with a 1.73 ERA, opponents' batting average (.159) and hits per nine innings (5.1) in his lone full season with Cincinnati. He was second in strikeouts with 100 and strikeouts per nine innings (12.3). He went 5-4 with a league-leading two shutouts and two complete games.

Dodgers news: Zach McKinstry will continue oblique rehab in Arizona

Zach McKinstry is slowly but surely working his way back from a strained right oblique, an injury that will take him next to the Dodgers facility at Camelback Ranch in Arizona, with no defined timetable for his return to the majors.
“A lot of guys say, ‘Once it feels 100 percent, even take a day, just to make sure that it is 100 percent,’ and just kind of take it slow,” McKinstry said Monday. “You don’t want it to really nag all year, so just take it slow and come back ready to go.”
McKinstry said he felt something in his side during batting practice before Thursday’s series opener against the Padres. He was scratched from the lineup that night, then placed on the 10-day injured list Friday.

Report: OF Yasiel Puig to revive his career in Mexico

Report: OF Yasiel Puig to revive his career in Mexico
By Syndicated Content
Apr 20, 2021 6:01 PM
Without any options in the major leagues, outfielder Yasiel Puig will try to revive his career in Mexican League with Veracruz, ESPN reported Tuesday.
Puig, 30, burst onto the scene in 2013 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and has been a productive major leaguer but also has been a polarizing figure over a seven-year career.
The Cuba native has 132 home runs and 415 RBIs over 861 games, finishing second in rookie-of-the-year voting in 2013 when he hit 19 home runs in just 104 games. He hit as many as 28 home runs with the Dodgers in 2017.

Alex Rodriguez returned to the infield, hugged a reception line of teammates and was handed the final ball from his final game with the New York Yankees. He walked to the area behind third base, leaned down and grabbed a handful of dirt.
Baseball's most notorious star of the last two decades then headed back to the dugout after a Yankee Stadium finale Friday night that included a pregame ceremony punctuated by thunder cracks and cut short by a downpour, a first-inning RBI double and a surprising ninth-inning return to third base.

Former LA Dodgers star Yasiel Puig denies sexual assault accusations

Former LA Dodgers star Yasiel Puig denies sexual assault accusations
Puig released a statement addressing allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman back in 2018
This week, former Los Angeles Dodgers athlete
Yasiel Puig has come forward to dispute claims that he sexually assaulted a woman at the Staples Center back in 2018.
Wednesday, Puig released a statement addressing allegations made against him by an anonymous woman in an October 2020 civil lawsuit. Although his lawyers denied the claims in the lawsuit at the time, this is the athlete’s first time publicly addressing the case.
“Let me be clear and set the record straight once and for all: These allegations are totally false, the evidence proves they are false, and I look forward to all the facts and the truth coming out,” Puig said.

Prospects who could be called up 2021

Opening Day rosters featured 17 Top 100 Prospects, yet it's some unheralded rookies who have made the biggest impact during the first week of the big league season. Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo, Reds second baseman Jonathan India, Dodgers utilityman Zach McKinstry and White Sox catcher Yermín Mercedes have generated plenty of highlights.
There are several prospects who didn't begin the season in the Majors who will make their presence felt later in the year. Below, we highlight one for each club.
AMERICAN LEAGUE EAST
A 20-year-old pitcher reaching the Majors this early? It isn’t out of the realm of possibility. With a September birthdate, Woods Richardson was young for his class and, if not for 2020, would be entering his third full Minor League season. The right-hander sports four above-average pitches and has little issue filling up the zone. The Blue Jays got a good look at that skill set this spring, when he fanned eight over eight scoreless innings, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Woods Richardson help the club in its playoff push in the second half.

Mariners To Select Taylor Trammell's Contract

Taylor Trammell on their Opening Day roster, manager Scott Servais told Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times (allTwitterlinks) and other reporters.  Trammell hasn’t only just made the roster, but Servais that Trammell will be the starter in either left field or center field depending on the health of
Kyle Lewis.  Another notable Seattle prospect in

The 35th overall pick of the 2016 draft, Trammell is set to make his Major League debut after having already been part of two huge trades in his young professional career.  Trammell was originally drafted by the Reds, who sent him to the Padres as the only piece San Diego received in their end of the three-team blockbuster in July 2019 that saw

One upgrade that every MLB team still needs to make

Few teams can match what the Yankees have atop their rotation in superstar ace Gerrit Cole, but after that, the Bombers have question marks. They traded for Cole's former Pittsburgh teammate Jameson Taillon who has talent and upside, but he's made only seven starts since the beginning of 2019 due to injury. Corey Kluber is an interesting addition but injuries have prevented the two-time Cy Young winner from being a force since 2018. Domingo German is not exactly being welcomed back with open arms after a domestic violence suspension, Jordan Montgomery has been inconsistent at best, and Luis Severino is still recovering from Tommy John surgery. Deivi Garcia is an exciting young arm that will undoubtedly get opportunities, but the Yankees should bring another veteran pitcher in to compete. Cole Hamels, Mike Leake, Jeff Samardzija, Rick Porcello, and Anibal Sanchez are all still available on the free-agent market, and New York should try to bring one down to Tampa to compete.

A top leader of Yemen's al-Qaida branch has claimed responsibility for last week's attack on a Paris newspaper, when two masked gunmen killed 12 people, including much of the weekly's editorial staff and two police officers.
Nasr al-Ansi, a top commander of Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP as the branch is known, appeared in an 11-minute Internet video posted Wednesday, saying that the massacre at
Charlie Hebdo was in "vengeance for the prophet." The paper had published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which is considered an insult in Islam.

Offseason In Review: Houston Astros

Card image cap

MLB Trade Rumors
5:57pm CDT
Despite finishing under .500 during the regular season, the Astros made their fourth straight trip to the American League Championship Series in 2020. The Rays denied them a World Series berth, though, and the Astros have since lost one of their longtime stars to free agency.
Major League Signings
Jake Odorizzi, RHP: Three years, $23.5MM (third year is a player option)
Total spend: $76.1MM
Notable Minor League Signings
The biggest question the Astros faced entering the offseason was whether they would be able to re-sign outfielder George Springer, a three-time All-Star who was hugely instrumental in the team’s recent success. The Astros made Springer an $18.9MM qualifying offer, which he summarily rejected, and it doesn’t seem they put forth much of an effort to retain him after that. In the end, Springer exited Houston for another AL team – Toronto – for a six-year, $150MM payday.

The Utility of "Going For It" in the Offseason

Card image cap

March 2, 2021
For fans of the 29 teams whose autumns aren’t highlighted by a World Series parade (in a normal year at least), the offseason is a time of equality, when every team is zero games back from a playoff spot and hope springs eternal. Front offices have four months to write checks and strike deals with the hope of blocking off the streets come November, or at least sell some tickets along the way. Baseball Twitter and internet forums everywhere are filled with catchphrases like “winning the offseason,” “making a splash,” and of course, “going for it.”
In a perfect world, every team would try its hardest and “go for it” every year, but in today’s MLB, no offseason is without a large swathe of teams sitting on their hands if not outright tanking. The merits of managing a team for the sake of the bottom line or stockpiling prospects for some future championship run can be debated ad nauseum, but the teams that deserve our attention are the ones who spend the winter months actively trying to improve their on-field products and win the whole damn thing.

Justin Turner's great spring training numbers since joining the Dodgers

Spring training stats are, for the most part, devoid of meaning. But it doesn’t mean they can’t be fun.
The results don’t matter in these games, which are first and foremost about getting players — especially pitchers — ready for the regular season. It’s why I root for a tie in every single spring training game, and why I let out an audible gasp when Matt Davidson hit the game-deciding home run in the final inning on Sunday.
Spring training stats can be incredibly entertaining, like when Yasiel Puig in his very first spring training lit the world on fire, hitting .517/.500/.828. It led to someone asking manager Don Mattingly how he could send such a player to the minors. Mattingly, in a perfect deadpan delivery, said, “Usually, I just tell them.”

Opening Day is about five weeks away, which means it’s time to start thinking about who the Red Sox will carry on their 26-man roster to start the season. With the Marwin Gonzalez signing finally official, the club is likely done making significant additions (barring a surprise spring training signing or trade).

First baseman Max Muncy’s home run leading off the bottom of the 18th inning capped the deal and ended the longest world series game in history early Saturday. Los Angeles Dodgers won a 3-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox.
Muncy’s homer to Nathan Eovaldi’s full-count pitch brought the remaining fans to their feet at 12:30 a.m. Muncy, smiling ear-to-ear threw his helmet off and headed for third for the ending of the final game. It lasted 7 hours and 20 minutes

8 Spring Training storylines to watch

share-square-1920505
“Pitchers and catchers report” feels a little different this February relative to previous years for obvious reasons, but even in these strange times in which we live, Spring Training is a special time.
It begins, officially, with the first of the pitcher and catcher report dates today. So as players begin to infiltrate camps in Florida and Arizona, let’s assess the eight biggest storylines of the spring.
1. Game of adjustments
To the litany of health and safety measures that players, coaches, and staff had to abide by in the shortened 2020 season, we add a new code of conduct that includes contact tracing devices and a quasi-quarantine throughout Spring Training. Exhibition attendance will be limited, access restricted.

Brewers Acquire Derek Fisher From Blue Jays

Card image cap

Jorge Solar Power
I’m not sure how this Fisher deal is going to work out but since this is a Brewers article I will go ahead and share my thoughts on the Derek Fisher pick-up and potential moves for the rest of Milwauke’s free agency:
I’m hoping for the best for Derek Fisher. I have to say I’m a little surprised Milwaukee cut Ryan Braun to make room on the roster for him though. I know Braun is just a right handed outfielder reliever with a history of ped injury but the outfield bullpen is one of the Brewers biggest needs right now. Braun has actually been really good when he has thrown. Fisher was really only good in 2019. He was in the minors then and he played in the best hitters league in professional baseball. It also happened to be the exact same season the baseball was more juiced than ever. A lot of players had great offensive outlier seasons that year and especially in that league. He never really did that well before that and has done terrible since Houston traded him to Toronto. I figure a minor leaguer with options has to be pretty bad for even the Toronto to not want to spend a roster spot on him even though they just recently traded Aaron Sanchez to get him. Maybe he will be better back with the Brewers coaching or maybe Braun’s ped injury has damaged him more than we know and the Brewers have lost faith in him.
