Lakeland BOE Election: Seven Candidates Vie for Three Seats

Member of District Management Policy Committee
Member of District Equity Committee
What inspired you to run for school board and what do you hope to accomplish with a three-year term?
I am extremely grateful to the LCSD for the education my son received. He had a reading disability and started receiving special education services in second grade. The support we got from the teachers and administrators was amazing. With that support, he became an honors student, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in engineering. My gratitude to the district, my strong belief in public education, and my dedication to community service inspire me to work hard to ensure that the standards in Lakeland remain high, so that other families can have a similar experience. As an active member of the Audit and Budget committees, I believe my financial background will help ensure that Lakeland remains a financially healthy district, providing quality education to our students as well as extra-curricular enrichment in sports and the arts while minimizing the tax burden on our community.

MOHEGAN LAKE, N.Y. – The quick actions and attentiveness of George Washington Elementary School day-time custodian, Angelo Alessandro, saved a third-grade student from choking during a lunch period on Tuesday, April 20.
Alessandro noticed that a student was acting abnormally at his lunch table and went to check out the situation to see if the child was OK.
“Once I went to the kid, then I see that he’s not breathing, and the bottom lip was turning purple. He was choking,” Alessandro said. “His mouth was full, he was not breathing, he was passing out on me. I just tried to open up his mouth a little bit and I pulled whatever I could from inside his mouth.”

Yorktown Parents Inspire Senior Celebrations Across the Country

April 4, 2021 at 9:00 AM
YORKTOWN, N.Y. – Parents of the Yorktown senior class have partnered with Yorktown High School and local businesses to create a schedule of monthly events to celebrate the senior class. The success of the Yorktown parents’ plans led to the spread of senior celebration ideas across Westchester and to parents in states around the country.
The Yorktown parents’ involvement began with a Facebook post by senior parent Tracey Falcone right after Christmas. Her post asked if any parents wanted to get involved in planning events for their senior children, who had already lost half of their junior year and the first half of their senior year.

Yorktown Home of Historic Distinction: Huntersville's Morrison Manor

February 25, 2021 at 2:53 PM
YORKTOWN, N.Y. – One of the most beautifully preserved Victorian houses in Yorktown is located on scenic Hunterbrook Road. Built in the 1890s as a country retreat for acclaimed stage actor Lewis Morrison, “Morrison Manor” was the setting for countless garden parties and picnics throughout the last years of the 19th century and early days of the 20th. The Yorktown Heritage Preservation Commission has recognized it as a Home of Historic Distinction.
Morrison purchased the 25 acres for his future country seat in 1894. The property had once been the site of a shoe shop and factory run by Albert Wright, a cobbler who supplied shoes to Sing Sing Prison. After Wright’s death in 1882, his buildings on the grounds were razed, and by the time Morrison acquired the property, only a pastoral meadow and forest remained on which to locate his new home.
