What We'll Be Watching Together Alone at Home at the 2021 Boulder Jewish Film Festival – Boulder Jewish News


The ninth Boulder Jewish Film Festival is thrilled to pay tribute to documentary filmmaker Pierre Sauvage, as well as to honor his lifelong dedication to Holocaust education and memorialization, in a special six-program series. Described by Tablet Magazine as “a filmmaker of rare moral perception,” Sauvage has consistently probed questions of moral choice, focusing on the magnitude of humanity’s failure during the Holocaust by underscoring what it was possible to do.
Sauvage was honored in 2018 with similar retrospectives at the Paris Mémorial de la Shoah and in Le Chambon-sur-Lignon. The exclusive BJFF tribute program includes two special live events and four talkbacks. The closing event Q&A will focus on “

Now Playing! Festivals Go Out with a Bang and a Boo!

In a normal year—won’t it be sweet when we can retire that phrase from our lexicon?—our screens would be chock-a-block with glittery trailers for holiday movies. Our local festival programmers, meanwhile, would be on hiatus except for the year-end fundraising email, mulling next year’s events.
But everything’s upside down in our ongoing Bizarro World. The only major studio films of the season,
Wonder Woman 1984 and
Soul, are delayed summer releases that will be viewed, overwhelmingly, on home streaming platforms (HBO Max and Disney+, respectively). Festival wizards, on the other hand, are plying us with rare December programs. And are we grateful.
