Countries relying on China's Covid vaccines may be vulnerable to future waves of the disease, scientists warned today.
Experts told MailOnline the spiralling crisis in Chile should send a warning to the rest of the world that Chinese-made jabs are too weak to halt the spread of the virus, even with a successful immunisation programme.
At least 53 countries have ordered doses of the Chinese vaccines, many of which are developing nations in South America, Africa and South East Asia. The fact they are cheap and easy to store has made them ideal for countries which do not have the special equipment to keep other jabs at ultra-cold temperatures.

Mix of Islamist insurgency and energy windfall proves toxic to Mozambique
Eden must have been like this: endless stretches of white sand, azure sea, pristine coral in a thousand colours that no artist ever imagined.  Then, one summer morning in 2015, the red stain of violent death spread across the small village of Pangane, near the Mercado De Peixe fish market. Exactly how it began isn’t clear, but young Islamist radicals demanding a ban on alcohol brawled with police; an officer was stabbed. For years, Islamist activists—calling themselves al-Shabaab, or ‘The Youth’—had been demanding the imposition of shari’a law; until then, no-one had taken them seriously.

SOUTH Africa’s first ever dedicated checklist of sharks, rays, skates, and ghost sharks has finally been published.
David Ebert (AKA ‘The Lost Shark Guy’), a research associate at the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB), published the checklist after undertaking the South African Shark and Ray Protection Project.
Supported by SAIAB, the project was implemented by WILDOCEANS (a programme of the WILDTRUST), and funded by the Shark Conservation Fund.
Zululand is a renowned shark territory, but this time it’s not about rugby! The list, entitled An annotated checklist of the chondrichthyans of South Africa, includes sharks found in and around local waters, as well as their IUCN Red List status that outlines their risk of extinction.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is holding an emergency meeting today in Maputo to discuss terrorism in Mozambique.
The group did not express particular hopes on the “extraordinary double troika summit”. SADC is “deeply concerned” about the spate of attacks in Cabo Delgado, most notably the recent assault on Palma.

Shire-Zambezi waterway project hangs in limbo

Government says the multi-billion kwacha Shire- Zambezi Waterway Project  is no longer a priority.
Chakwera during a visit to Nsanje Port and promised to complete the project successfully
Ministry of Transport and Public Works spokesperson Andrew Mthiko said the government is concentrating on rehabilitating the old Sena corridor; the railway line from Limbe to Beira port in Mozambique, instead.
Mthiko said the decision is in line with the 2017 National Transport Master Plan which revealed that Malawi could save more by utilizing the railway line unlike the Nsanje Inland port.
The Shire-Zambezi water project was put off balance when Mozambique rejected the project as it had potential to killing the country’s economic lifeline of Nacala and Beira ports.

On an afternoon in October, one of those sublime fall days bestowed like a gift that’s about to slip through your fingers, I boarded a boat and left Manhattan. Sunshine gilded my face, my curls rippled in the breeze, and I gripped the railing to steady myself as the familiar silhouette of the New York City skyline loomed behind me. Four minutes later, I arrived in my destination: Queens.

One of African carrier Linhas Aereas de Mocambique’s Boeing 737-700s has suffered a runway excursion during landing at Quelimane airport.
LAM says the aircraft was operating the domestic flight TM1134 from Maputo on 26 February.
The aircraft involved (C9-BAR) came to rest on rough grassy ground after arriving from the capital at about 14:40, the airline adds.
Quelimane has a single runway, designated 18/36, around 1,800m in length.
LAM says the aircraft “ended up sliding, ending up at the end of the runway”. Images from the scene indicate passengers were disembarked using airstairs, and the airline says there were no casualties.
