This wedding season, brides are favoring antique and jadau jewellery, driving up gold prices and pushing average budgets to Rs 10 lakhs from the previous Rs 5-7 lakhs. Mumbai's Zaveri Bazaar reports a surge in heavy jewellery demand, particularly for jadau pieces. Designer Kolkatti jewellery from Kolkata gains popularity. Despite a market slowdown till December 30 due to soaring gold prices at Rs 64,000 per 10 gm, South India witnesses a 15% increase in antique jewellery demand. The trend signifies a blend of tradition and modern design, according to industry leaders.

Gold Price: The yellow metal touched Rs 64,200 per 10 gm on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) in early morning trade, taking a cue from the international market. Silver, which is termed as a poor man’s gold, also rose to a new high at Rs 78,331 per kg on the MCX. At around 4 pm, gold was trading a bit lower around Rs 63,850.
