Gov. Larry Hogan on Thursday toured a new mass vaccination site at Frederick Community College.
The site, which opened last week, administered more than 800 vaccines on Thursday. So far, more than 56% of Maryland adults have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, including more than 82% of those 65 and older.
This week, the governor launched a new campaign aimed at encouraging hesitant Marylanders to get vaccinated and reassuring them about the vaccines safety.
Speaking to reporters, he also responded to questions Comptroller Peter Franchot raised at Wednesday s Board of Public Works about the cost of the state s vaccine campaign. Franchot questioned why the state s $3.8 million contract was increased to $25 million and extended without going through the normal procurement process.

After several weeks of receiving more than 10,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses a week, Montgomery County and the rest of the state will have thousands of doses less to administer after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was halted for a review.
On Tuesday, the county announced that it would pause use of the vaccine after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended that all medical providers stop administering the one-dose vaccine. The agencies are trying to determine potential links between the vaccine and a few cases of rare blood clots.
