As the stars of stage and screen gathered in Melbourne to farewell Michael Gudinski, a giant of the Australian music industry, 162 roadies and stage crew set up a guard of honour for his funeral procession. All of them wore black T-shirts emblazoned with the words “MG Crew Forever”.

Howard Freeman, who knew Gudinski for 51 years and helped coordinate the roadies on Wednesday, said it was “a day of respect for an industry leader” and that some of the crew had flown from interstate to attend.
