From 6pm to 8pm, Fort Worth Water hosts
Water Saving Seminar: It’s Irrigation Season at the Botanic Research Institute of Texas (1700 University Dr, Fort Worth, 817-332-4441). Using less water is good for the environment and saves money on your water bill. At this free class, you will learn how to accomplish both goals by regulating water pressure, using water more efficiently, and implementing strategic gardening and landscaping ideas. Trailer Park Tragedy Murder Mystery Dinner is 7pm-10pm at Messina Hof Winery (201 S Main St, Grapevine, 817-442-8463). As the actors and storytellers, attendees embark on a murderous misadventure with fellow neighbors at the trailer park while dining on a barbecue meal, drinking Texas wine, and collecting clues to solve the murder. FOCUS: Wael Shawky features a film from the Egyptian-American’s trilogy
Cabaret Crusades in addition to new and related drawings and sculpture. The history of the Arab peninsula, medieval hostilities between Christians and Muslims, and the recounting of poetic myths are just some of his themes.

From site-specific to on your TV screen, there's lots of new work to be enjoyed this month. But if you're feeling nostalgic, there are also two more familiar titles — though they are polar opposites in terms of content (witches versus Jesus). 
Here are six local shows to watch this month:
Teatro Dallas, May 7
Christian Cruz's site-specific performance is inspired by Mexican Consul Francisco de la Torre’s quote, “We will build bridges, not walls.” Featuring her “Grito de Orgullo Choir,” Cruz will create a modern day ceremony to celebrate one another. The performance takes place in the parking lot of the Mexican Consulate (1210 River Bend Dr. in Dallas).

A Q&A session with eight candidates for city council’s District 9 seat (Near Southside, downtown, parts of South Fort Worth) was recently posted by Near Southside, Inc. The community event was presented in collaboration with Red Productions, Amphibian Stage, and moderator Estrus Tucker from DEI Consultants. Candidate Darien George has since pulled out of the race.
“Near Southside, Inc. presented the event to help inform voters during the election season and is not responsible for candidate and viewer content and comments,” said a Near Southside, Inc. spokesperson.

Hack the Planet. The festivities include a free rooftop screening of the movie
Hackers at 8pm, a free
Wipeout game demo at 10pm, and a throwback electronic DJ set by VIC-20 at 10pm. All-you-can-play arcade access is $10.16 plus tax. Attendees also receive a free Hack the Planet floppy disk while supplies last. While the event is free to attend, table reservations can be made for $20 at FreePlayFtWorth.com.
