Travel news latest: Heathrow chaos as 120 security staff told to isolate Hazel Plush, Emma Beaumont
Heathrow passengers faced departures queues of up to 2.5 hours today, as the airport experienced a reported shortfall of 120 security personnel.
The short-staffing was due to colleagues being instructed to self-isolate by NHS Track and Trace, the airport later confirmed.
Some Heathrow employees had initially claimed that security staff had failed to turn up because of the football, while other cited a glitch in the NHS app, triggering mass self-isolation.
Passengers took to Twitter to complain about the delays, with one user commenting: Chaos at T5 this morning, 90 minutes to go through security. Others reported departures queues of 2.5 hours.

Borough Market
Arriving along with the summer sun, the Borough Market Picnic Box provides the al fresco lunch (and dinner) of dreams. A bag arrived at my door filled with treats, from mushroom pate to charcuterie and cheese, sourced from the best artisans at the market.
My partner and I brought it on our outing to Richmond park and spent a happy hour smothering thick cut rosemary and olive oil sourdough (which arrived whole in a boule) with parma ham, noix de jambon and emmental from Une Normande à Londres. There was soft cheese with chutney, olives and cornichons to snack on too.
