SC chides authorities for lack of planning in metropolis - Newspaper

KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday came down hard on the provincial and local authorities over unauthorised allotment of land and lack of town planning in the metropolis.
A three-judge SC bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed slammed the Karachi commissioner, director general of the Sindh Building Control Authority and a senior member of the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) as they failed to offer any explanation about the incorporation of land reserved for a road into a plot in the Sindhi Muslim Housing Society.
The visibly irked chief justice wondered under what law a mukhtiarkar could operate on the land of a housing society after a report of the mukhtiarkar was placed before the bench about leasing out the plot in question and a 15-storey building known as Nasla Tower built on it.

KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday came down hard on the provincial and local authorities over unauthorised allotment of land and lack of town planning in the metropolis.
A three-judge SC bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed slammed the Karachi commissioner, director general of the Sindh Building Control Authority and a senior member of the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) as they failed to offer any explanation about the incorporation of land reserved for a road into a plot in the Sindhi Muslim Housing Society.

Ghaziabad: Junior engineer of Jal Nigam caught red-handed taking Rs 13 lakh bribe

The accused junior engineer of Jal Nigam in Ghaziabad had demanded Rs 21 lakh bribe in two installments from a contractor to desilt the Muradnagar-Delhi water pipeline.

Ghaziabad: In a major operation by a team of Vigilance department officials from Meerut, a junior engineer of the Ghaziabad Jal Nigam has been arrested for taking Rs 13 lakh bribe.
The accused has been identified as Vikram Singh, who lives in Ghaziabad. Jal Nigam had given a contract of Rs 3.6 cr to a contractor identified as Satish Kumar to remove silt from a water pipeline in Muradnagar to Delhi.

ISLAMABAD: Apparently responding to the remarks made by the Senate deputy chairman on Saturday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has repudiated a “malicious propaganda campaign” being carried out in a section of media to malign the anti-graft watchdog by casting lopsided aspersions over the bureau.
A NAB spokesman said in a statement on Sunday that the bureau would not bow down before any propaganda campaign about its working.
The context used in some of the said media reports was premised on deliberate conjecturing and assumptions based on cherry picked surmises which were far from facts and aimed only to discredit NAB, he said.

Mandviwalla's allegations: No affiliation with any group, individual: NAB

ISLAMABAD: Denying all the allegations levelled against it, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sunday said it had time and again clarified and announced that it had no affiliation with any political party, individual or group and its affiliation was only with the State of Pakistan.
In a statement with regard to the Deputy Chairman Senate Salim Mandviwalla’s allegations against the NAB in a press talk on Saturday, the NAB said it will not come under any pressure or propaganda campaign.
Clarifying the media reports, the NAB said the land of Kidney Hill area was reserved for amenity purposes i.e. development of a public park. KDA has published a notification in the Gazette of Pakistan under Article 45 of KDA order dated 07-11-1966 & 05-09-1969 regarding Kidney Hill as KDA Scheme No 32 “FALAKNAMA” and proposed it to be a recreational area as park.

SC berates CBC officials for leasing out land to build high-rises - Newspaper

KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday came down hard on Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) authorities for leasing out its land to private persons to build high-rises and failing to remove encroachments and issued notice to the top law officer of the federal government.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Qazi Mohammad Amin Ahmed observed that the cantonment land could not be used to raise private buildings and there was categorization of such land, which needed to be examined.
It asked the attorney general to assist it.
The chief justice said that no progress had been made to comply with its earlier order to remove encroachments from the land owned by the federal authorities and rather more high-rise buildings were being constructed on such land.
