Santiago Bacasno, the father of slain activist Mark Lee "Makmak" Bacasno, blamed the anti-terror law for his son's tragic death.
"
Ganyan ba ang batas ng anti-terror law? Papatay muna bago i-search? Bago arestuhin? (Is that what the anti-terror law is about? Kill first before searching? Before arresting?)" Bacasno asked on Friday, March 12, during a press conference organized by the families of the victims of the March 7 "Bloody Sunday'' operations.
Makmak Bacasno, a member of San Isidro Kasiglahan, Kapatiran at Damayan para sa Kabuhayan, Katarungan at Kapayapaan (SIKKAD-K3) in Rodriguez, Rizal, was killed during the deadly crackdown in Calabarzon, along with 8 other activists. The raids also saw the arrest of 6 other progressive individuals.

Malacañang vows justice if human rights violated in Calabarzon raids

Malacañang vows justice if human rights violated in Calabarzon raids
Mar 11, 2021 1:57 PM PHT
Malacañang on Thursday, March 11, promised to hold accountable any soldier or cop found to have murdered activists during recent raids in Calabarzon.
"Impunity has no place in the Duterte administration. Whoever violated the law will be held accountable and will be punished under our laws," Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said on Thursday.
Malacañang expressed confidence in the Department of Justice's investigation into the killings of 9 activists who worked in progressive groups involved in labor rights, housing rights, and human rights advocacies.
"When it comes to the right to life, the obligation of the state is to investigate and punish those who violated human rights, and that is the promise of our Department of Justice," said Roque.

Calabarzon police ops highlight need for UN to address Philippine human rights situation —HRW

International group Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Wednesday (PHL time) said the police operations in Calabarzon that led to the arrests and deaths of activists show the need for member countries of the United Nations to look into the "worsening" human rights situation in the Philippines.
HRW said the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights should consider having a "rapid response unit" probe the police operations.
“The Southern Luzon raids were apparent politically motivated killings that the police and military have sought to justify with unconvincing justifications that echo ‘drug war’ claims. UN member states should see through this deadly deception and press for international action that would hold the Duterte administration to account," HRW deputy Asia director Phil Robertson said.

This is a press release from the Alliance of Public Health Advocates.
Addressing the youth’s waning vaccine confidence through education and awareness, the Alliance of Public Health Advocates (ALPHA) trained youth leaders to formulate campaigns for effective health services.
Dubbed the Angat Kalusugan Operations (AKO) Initiative, the campaign seeks to promote education and awareness of vaccination, particularly on   Measles-Rubella Oral Polio Vaccine Supplementary Immunization Activity (MR-OPV-SIA) and COVID-19 vaccines. The campaign was launched on February 1.
Led by health advocates from San Pablo, Laguna, the Angat Kalusugan Operations Initiative features an online information drive, youth governance camp, and a health education camp titled “BakUNA MUNA.” The activities aim to address youth’s concerns about vaccination.

People killed, arrested in Calabarzon 'legal activists,' says Bayan; PNP defends ops

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) on Monday denied that the people killed and arrested in police-military operations in Calabarzon on Sunday were "communist-terrorists' as claimed by security forces.
In a statement, Bayan secretary general Renato Reyes said these personalities are "legal activists."
"All of those arrested and killed in CALABARZON on Bloody Sunday were legal activists, not personalities of alleged 'communist terrorist groups' as the Philippine National Police claims," he said.
Nine activists were killed while six others were arrested in the simultaneous police-military operations pursuant to some search warrants.
