2020 vs 2021: Murder cases in Ghaziabad down, but thefts up in first 6 months | Noida News

GHAZIABAD: Incidents of theft are on the rise in the areas under the jurisdiction of almost all police stations in Ghaziabad so far this year. According to Ghaziabad police data, a total of 1,284 FIRs of theft have been lodged in the district from January 1 to June 30 this year, a spike of nearly 19% compared to the corresponding period in 2020, when 1,082 cases were filed.
Most of the theft cases registered this year (977) are vehicle thefts. The data reveals that most vehicle thefts have been reported in Kavi Nagar (139), followed by Indirapuram (115) and Sahibabad (95). The most burglaries have occurred in Sahibabad (41), followed by Indirapuram (35).

Robbers enter house as courier agents, flee with cash and gold | Noida News

GHAZIABAD: A robbery was reported in a local businessman’s house in the Link Road area on Wednesday evening. The three accused entered the house posing as courier agents and took the family hostage at gunpoint.
The house belongs to Vikas Kumar, a dry fruit seller. At the time of incident, he had gone to attend a marriage function in Delhi and his younger brother Ashutosh, his mother and the accountant from his office were present in the house. The accused fled with cash worth Rs 1 lakh and valuables of over Rs 5 lakh.
Ashutosh told TOI, “Around 4.30 pm on Wednesday, one of the accused rang the doorbell and told me that there is a courier in the name of my brother. When I opened the gate, he barged into the house along with two other masked men. They took us at gunpoint, tied our hands and legs with ropes and locked us in a room. They threatened us and asked for the keys of the almirah. They started beating us when we resisted. After around 20 minutes, they fled from the spot and took with them Rs 1 lakh, two gold chains, rings, our mobile phones and other valuables.”

GHAZIABAD: A robbery attempt was reported at a restaurant owner’s house in Aditya World City of Kavi Nagar area on Monday.
The accused duo allegedly entered the house posing as insurance agents. According to police, the house belongs to Tarun Verma, who owns a restaurant in Ghaziabad.
The robbers allegedly held Tarun’s mother at knifepoint and when he tried to help her, one of the men attacked him with a knife, police said. The robbers fled the spot when Tarun’s mother raised the alarm.
According to the complainant, he was in his room around 2.30pm when two people came and knocked on their gate. Uma (62), Tarun’s mother, opened the door and the two accused men introduced themselves as insurance agents.

Society gate closed over Covid concern, residents protest | Noida News

Ghaziabad: Residents and RWA members of Pratap Nagar in Ghaziabad on Thursday staged a protest against one of the gates of their society between the police line and Pratap Nagar area that was closed by police citing Covid-19 threat to police personnel. Residents said that the stretch meets Hapur road but with cops closing it, it takes around 20 minutes to reach Hapur road via Avantika. They have to travel an additional 2.5km to reach Hapur road.
Residents also alleged that during the protest, the police misbehaved with them. Through their protest, which started around 9am and continued till 12noon, the residents demanded the road be opened, else they would sit on a hunger strike.

Gzb set to open 2 vaccine booths for women next week | Noida News

Ghaziabad: After “workplace” and “guardian special” vaccination centres, the district administration has now planned to open two special inoculation booths for women.
The sites will open next week and residents will have to book slots online before getting the jabs. According to officials, 200 people would be vaccinated at each centre daily. While one booth will be in trans-Hindon area, the other will be in city area. The exact date and location for the booths are yet to be decided, officials said. Meanwhile, residents welfare associations have been asked to prepare lists of domestic staff employed in housing societies so that they can be inoculated at the special booths, a senior health official.
