Scott City drops two home games to Hays | Western Kansas News


Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Tuesday night began the final stretch of the regular season, as Scott City played host to the Hays High Indians at the Scott Community Event Center. It would be a night that the visitors from Hays would pick up a couple of road wins, as the Lady Indians got a 38-33 win, while the Indian boys pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 57-35 victory.

Hays would never trail in the game, despite being tied twice in the fourth quarter. The Lady Indians jumped out to a 7-0 lead, and led 9-4 after the first eight minutes. Scott City pulled to within 10-8 early in the second frame, before Hays went on an 11-5 run to lead 21-13 with 2:44 left in the first half. The Lady Beavers would score the final points of the half and trailed 21-17 at the break. Hays scored the first seven points of the second half to give themselves their largest lead of the game at 28-17 with 2:46 left in the third quarter. Scott City responded with the final four points of the quarter, and then a basket in the fourth period to get to within 28-21 with 6:34 left. The Lady Indians led 31-23 with 5:29 remaining, before the Lady Beavers would come back and tie the game at 31 with 1:41 left. Both teams would trade two points to tie the game at 33 with a minute left. A Carly Lang layup with 47 seconds left would put Hays up 35-33, as they forced a turnover on the next Scott City possession, and closed the game out with three free throws to pick up the 38-33 win.
