Statewide poster contest focuses on Lyme Disease
Maine CDC announces the winners of the 2021 Lyme Disease Awareness poster contest.

AUGUSTA The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention has announced the winners of its annual Lyme Disease Awareness Month poster contest, held for Maine students in kindergarten through grade 8.
Maine CDC holds the contest every May to demonstrate the importance of tickborne disease prevention and awareness.
This year’s winners are:
• Evelyn Hibbard, grade 1, Suzanne Smith Elementary School, Levant;
• Lulu Willauer, grade 3, Stratton Elementary School;
• Alexia Indermuehle, grade 5, Andover Elementary School; and
• Aiden Zagelder, grade 8, Hichborn Middle School, Howland.

Avery Cook, a fourth grade student at Spruce Mountain Elementary School in Jay is the winner of his division of the 2021 Lyme Disease Awareness Poster Contest. Art teacher Tammy Lindsey teaches about ticks and Lyme disease then has her students draw posters as a community service. Since Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services and Center for Disease Control and Prevention began the contest in 2010, one of Lindsey’s students has won the contest for their grade division.

Trent Johnson and Cory Brooks combined for 12 innings of four-run ball as the starting pitchers and Purdue baseball scored six times in the ninth inning to sweep a doubleheader with Michigan State and Illinois on Sunday.
