Facebook Requested To Drop 'Instagram For Kids' Plan

A coalition of 44 US attorneys general signed a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg urging Facebook not to launch “Instagram for Kids”, citing mental health and privacy concerns.
The “Instagram for Kids” app will allow children under the age of 13 to begin using the popular photo-sharing app. However, the attorneys general urge Facebook to abandon its plans to launch this new platform.
The letter lists reasons and cites research to show that Facebook should not go forth with its plans to develop and market a kid-friendly version of the Instagram app, reports GSMArena.
Among the reasons listed in the letter are — Facebook’s poor history of protecting children’s privacy and data on the platform, research showing that social media can be harmful to children on physical and psychological levels, children do not have a fully-developed understanding of privacy and can easily be targeted by anonymous predators.

Richard Hell and the Voidoids were at the forefront of the New York punk scene. Hell, who had done time with Television and Johnny Thunders' the Heartbreakers, elevated the punk art form on the first album, but then struggled to follow it up with Destiny Street five years later. This was at a time when punk/New Wave bands (see The Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads) were cranking albums out at about one (sometimes two) a year.

Parental Controls On Phones Violate Children's Rights — NHRCK

The state human rights watchdog has recommended the state telecommunications regulator come up with measures to protect children’s rights from being violated by applications that allow parents to control their children’s mobile activities.
The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) has dismissed two teenage plaintiffs’ petitions filed respectively against several app development companies and the Korea Communications Commission (KCC).
They said private firms are not subject to the state watchdog’s investigation by law and that there also is a limitation in holding the government responsible for the human rights infringements.
The NHRCK, however, concluded that the apps could excessively restrict children’s basic rights, such as the right to privacy and informational self-determination.

It appears that the use of digital devices changes how children perceive the world as a new study has found that pre-schoolers who frequently use tablet or mobile devices often tend to miss the forest for the trees.
People can be different in whether they typically see the forest or the trees, but the dominant attentional mode is focusing first on the whole, and then on the details. This is the same with children. Or so it has been until now.
Children using mobile devices differ in this skill as they tend to focus more on the details and less on the big picture, showed the new study published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior.
