NEWARK Evidence the vaccines are safe along with a surge in new coronavirus cases finally convinced some residents to roll up their sleeves and get the shot Monday at the Buckeye Vaccinate Tailgate at the Newark Kroger.
The event, which included Ohio State marching band drum major and Lakewood High School graduate Austin Bowman, Brutus Buckeye and Ohio State fanfare, provided health information and the free COVID-19 vaccine inside the store.
The pandemic has infected more than 1.1 million Ohioans and almost 17,000 Licking Countians, killing more than 20,000 statewide and 227 in Licking County. The Licking County Health Department reported Monday 76 new cases since July 21.
