First Black House sergeant-at-arms William Walker sworn in
“His historic appointment as the first Black American to serve as Sergeant-at-Arms is an important step forward for this institution and our nation," said Nancy Pelosi in a statement.
Speaker
Nancy Pelosi issued the oath of office to Walker during a House pro forma session. He will escort President
Joe Biden down the House chamber’s center aisle as the president prepares to address Congress for the first time since he took office.
“Do you solemnly swear or affirm that you will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that you will bear true faith and allegiance to the same, that you take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that you will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office of which you are about to enter, so help you God?” recited Pelosi, congratulating Walker as he answered “yes.”

Washington DC: It has been more than a month since rabid supporters of ex-US President Donald Trump stormed the sacred Capitol Hill building and caused a dangerous ruckus all around. From vandalizing public property to putting the lives of the police forces at risk, they did the unthinkable.
While the so-called 'patriots' thought that they are doing the nation a service, the country has had enough of them and now they are facing consequences. One such rioter named Richard Michetti is probably facing the most heat as his x-girlfriend turned him for taking part in the violent mob!

Officers open up about disastrous response to the Capitol insurrection

Series: The insurrection
The Effort to Overturn the Election
The riot squad defending the embattled entrance to the west side of the US Capitol was surrounded by violence. Rioters had clambered up the scaffolding by the stage erected for the inauguration of President Joseph Biden. They hurled everything they could get their hands on at the cops beneath: rebar, plywood, power tools, even cans of food they had frozen for extra damage.
In front of the cops, a mob was mounting a frontal assault. Its members hit officers with fists and baseball bats. They grabbed at weapons slung from the officers' waists. They unleashed a barrage of M-80 firecrackers. Soaked in never-ending streams of bright orange bear spray, the officers choked on plumes of acrid smoke that singed their nostrils and obscured their vision.

Far-right activist 'Baked Alaska' among latest Capitol rioters arrested, World News

Story highlights
He was arrested in Houston on Friday, according to the Justice Department’s website, and charged with two federal crimes
Anthime Joseph Gionet, a far-right media personality nicknamed “Baked Alaska” who is known for livestreaming himself participating in illegal activity, was arrested by the FBI on Friday and accused of illegally storming the Capitol during the attack on the building by President Donald Trump’s supporters last week.
Gionet, who has been banned from Twitter and YouTube for his content, livestreamed himself in the mob on DLive, a streaming service becoming more popular after a mass exodus of right-wing figures from more mainstream platforms. He posted a video that showed supporters of Trump taking selfies with officers in the Capitol who calmly asked them to leave the premises. The video showed the Trump supporters talking among themselves, laughing, and telling the officers and each other: “This is only the beginning.”

Who Is Liz Cheney, The Republican Leader Who Announced She'll Vote To Impeach President Donald Trump?

January 13, 2021
US Congresswoman Liz Cheney became the third highest-ranking leader in the House of Republican party to say that she will vote to impeach President Donald Trump. This announcement made Cheney the highest-ranking official from President Trump’s party to support his removal. The US House of Representatives is set to vote on Trump’s impeachment on January 13, in light of the Capitol Hill attack.
In her statement, Cheney accused Trump of mobilising the mob that attacked Capitol Hill last week. “The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the President.” She further added, “The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not,” according to CNN.

Last week's Capitol Hill riots remain at the forefront of US political discourse, with a mounting case for impeachment against Donald Trump and his associates, whose rhetoric inspired the attack. As Democrats draw up articles of impeachment and collect the votes needed to pass it, incoming President Joe Biden's teams remain preoccupied with his incoming inauguration. The event will look much different compared to those of his predecessors, thanks to both to the riots and pandemic.
