Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill on Wednesday that would expand access to medical cannabis for school children in need by removing obstacles to its administration.
The new legislation, SB 21-056, removes the discretion from school principals to set policies that regulate storing and administering cannabis-based medicines.
The bill places the responsibility on principals to “create a written treatment plan for the administration of cannabis-based medicine and on school boards to adopt policies regarding actual administration.”
School boards will be called upon to create guidelines on how cannabis medicines should be stored.
Governing bodies are also required to set rules that will allow personnel to voluntarily possess and administer medicinal cannabis to qualifying students.
It took nearly two years to chart the path, but recreational marijuana delivery is about to start in Colorado. The apps are ready to launch, cars are filled with gas, and permits are being issued at least five so far, according to the state Marijuana Enforcement Division.
Several dispensaries in Aurora, currently the only Colorado town that has recreational marijuana dispensaries and also allows recreational delivery, are racing to get their drivers on the road as soon as their permits are approved by the MED and the City of Aurora. The Green Solution, Medicine Man, Lightshade, Colorado Harvest Company and Rocky Road have all submitted applications, and a few have already been approved, according to the MED and Aurora regulators, with a couple of stores close to launching the service.
Minnesotans are one step closer toward the legalization of marijuana.
Cannabis reform legislation in the Gopher State is poised to receive its first hearing in the House Commerce Finance and Policy Committee on Wednesday, Feb.17.
House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler filed a bill earlier this month to allow adults 21 and older to buy and possess up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis, Marijuana Moment reports.
The legislation also allows the cultivation of up to eight plants (four could be mature, or have between five or seven blades per leaf).
Speaker Melissa Hortman co-sponsored the bill, which is identical to a legislation Winkler filed last year.
