Marcfirst Expands Child Service Twice In 6 Months

A rendering of the new Marcfirst space. An agency that serves people with disabilities in central Illinois says it will open a second pediatric therapy center. Marcfirst CEO Brian Wipperman said Friday it will be in the Carle BroMenn outpatient center on East Empire Street across from Central Illinois Regional Airport. It will open this fall. The center will have a sensory gym and six therapy rooms to analyze children ages 1 to 3 who are on the autism spectrum, the agency said in a news release. Marcfirst also will share some things with Carle BroMenn, including a water therapy pool and additional gym space for physical and occupational therapy.

Incumbent Becky Ropp and former student trustee Joshua Crockett were the top vote-getters for two, six-year terms on the board, according to unofficial results late Tuesday. Ropp, of Normal, was first appointed to the board in 2014. She is director of talent management at Growmark and co-owner of Ropp Jersey Cheese. Crockett, of Bloomington, is an Illinois State University senior who previously served as HCC student body president and HCC student trustee.

BLOOMINGTON — There will be new faces on the McLean County Unit 5 school board next year as none of the three incumbents whose terms expire in 2021 filed for re-election. Monday was the deadline for candidates to file. The election is April 6. In addition to Unit 5, there will be contested races in Bloomington District 87 and for the Heartland Community College board. Unit 5 Three four-year seats up for election in Unit 5. The terms of Taunia Leffler, Meta Mickens-Baker and Mike Trask expire in 2021 and none filed nominating petitions. No more than three people from the same congressional township can serve on the Unit 5 school board.
