IPOH: Caving enthusiasts have found a cave tunnel believed to be over a century old and used by people then to traverse between villages in Simpang Pulai. Perak Natural Heritage Geopark Tour Guides Association chairman Mohd Fadly Md Noor said the tunnel was about 400m long and was discovered at Gunung Lanno in October. Mohd Fadly said there was even a flight of steps, believed to be man-made, inside the tunnel. “All of these are based on our observations and we hope other parties can do a proper study on it. “We just want to let people know what we have found,” he told reporters when met near the tunnel on Saturday. ....

IPOH: The three limestone hills near Simpang Pulai where quarrying is being carried out have been gazetted under the mineral and rock industry economy zone, says Datuk Saarani Mohamad. The Perak Mentri Besar said the hills Gunung Lanno, Gunung Terundum and Gunung Rapat have been gazetted under the Batu Gajah District Council’s Local Plan 2025. Saarani said the majority of the caves located in the three hills are on the property of the quarry operators. “The three limestone hills are not listed as part of the Kinta Valley Geopark. All 18 geopark sites are also not part of the economy zone, ” he said in a statement. ....

Its spokesman Ching Boon Tat said the technology and means for underground mining are readily available and some quarry operators in Perak are already doing so.
